Interdisciplinary Master's degree in Green Chemistry

Starting with fall semester 2022/23, students will have access to a Master's degree in Green Chemistry in Austria for the first time. The special feature: The interdisciplinary master's degree is offered jointly by three major universities in Vienna: the University of Vienna, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences and the Technical University of Vienna, all represented in the Platform Green Chemistry. Each of the three universities has its own research focus in the field of green chemistry. This gives students the unique opportunity to receive a broad and interdisciplinary education, while also offering them a large selection of specialization options.

The course (4 semesters, 120 ECTS) is held in English and is concluded with the conferral of the "Master of Science". In the coming academic year, 50 places will be allocated for the master’s degree via a three-stage admissions process. The aim of this new course is to offer an internationally competitive, chemistry-related education, to convey a critical examination of resources, to familiarize students with technology assessment, and to enable them to use and develop chemistry responsibly in the sense of the concept of "safe and sustainable by design". The research and development of sustainable, safe and renewable products, energy and technologies through chemical and biochemical processes in the sense of a resource-saving circular economy are special priorities.
